Peter Taunton is a serial entrepreneur and his passion, vision, and drive, are helping him to shape the world of health and wellness with one business at a time.
As a pioneer in the fitness industry, Peter Taunton is always looking for the next big thing. His passion, vision, and drive have led him to shape the world of health and wellness with new and innovative ways to workout and get healthy. His revolutionary company, Snap Fitness, has become an industry leading fitness franchise, and Taunton has carved a special place for himself in the industry as an inspiration for other entrepreneurs who want to achieve the unthinkable. He is a serial entrepreneur, best selling author of Impossible Hill, and most recently, the CEO of a disruptive healthy fast-food franchise called Nautical Bowls.
Eight months ago, Taunton was approached by the company to come on board and take the business in a new direction. At the time, there were only a handful of Nautical Bowl locations in Minneapolis. And since then, Taunton has expanded the company to 70 locations and counting. “I am involved in every facet of this business because I know how important the foundational roles are in a startup company,” he says. “I’ve got to have my hand on the pulse of that,” he adds.
Nautical Bowls provides customers with healthy, fresh meals using organic, gluten free, dairy free, and plant-based ingredients, that are packed with essential vitamins and nutrients. It is a revolutionary concept that is gaining popularity around North America. As an expert franchisor having successfully led multiple businesses to financial freedom, such as 9Round, Farrell’s, YogaFit, STEELE Fitness, Fitness On Demand, and Lift Brands, building businesses is Taunton’s forte. He previously expanded three different businesses to over 1000 locations each, and is on track to achieving the same for Nautical Bowls.
“Nautical Bowls is relevant to what the people want. The bowl is plant based, gluten and dairy free, organic, and made with zero refined sugars. I know that the consumer loves my product, because every one of my stores performs well, and customers keep coming back,” he says. “I’m an expert at growing businesses. That’s my thing. It’s not an anomaly, it’s discipline,” he adds.
Business is something that Taunton has always been passionate about. At the age of eight years old, his first business venture was selling popcorn outside of his father’s grocery store. Being able to shadow his father, and make $10-$20 a day, which was a lot of money for a child at that time, Taunton learned a lot about what it means to be in business. He learned of the risks you have to take, the compassion a business owner embodies, as well as the importance of being able to make the right decisions. As a small town kid who didn’t follow a traditional path including going to college and working a nine-to-five, Taunton always felt like the odds for success were stacked against him, and his story is all the more inspiring because of it.
“You can never grow a company looking in the rearview mirror,” he says. Taunton is a forward thinker, and believes that discipline, accountability, consistency, and determination are what made his dreams a reality. And now, he hopes to inspire others to do the same. “I hope that people can look within and say, if he did it, I can do it too. But the spark doesn’t happen until you look at yourself in the mirror and you believe in that person looking back at you. If you don’t have that, you have no chance,” he says. Taunton believes that even if you fail, it’s okay because failure is a part of the process. “Every single person that I know that’s had any level of success in their life, had to deal with failure. Immense failure, and that doesn’t scare them. Failing is a part of winning.” he adds.
Taunton and his partners, Bryant and Rachel Amundson are passionate to help others and it’s reflected in Nautical Bowl’s philanthropic work as well. For every bowl purchased, the company donates one meal to a child in South East Asia. This is made possible through a partnership with Venture—an incredible organization that works to reach the most underserved populations in the world to address human trafficking, refugee crises, extreme poverty, and more. To date, Nautical Bowls has donated over 370,000 meals to children in need.
Whether it’s by donating meals, founding an industry leading fitness franchise, or fueling people’s bodies with healthy, organic, superfoods and vitamins, Taunton has changed millions of lives. He is a serial entrepreneur, and building businesses is his backbone. But more than that, he is known for his ability to make the impossible possible.
